How to Draw a Jack O’Lantern for Halloween

Drawing a jack o’lantern is a timeless Halloween tradition. Kids and adults alike love to draw, carve, and paint jack o’lanterns to decorate their homes and yards during the spookiest time of the year. Drawing a jack o’lantern is a great way to get into the Halloween spirit and have a little fun. Read on to learn how to draw a great jack o’lantern.

Gather Your Supplies

Before you start drawing your jack o’lantern, make sure that you have all the necessary supplies. You will need a pencil and paper, an eraser, some sort of drawing tool (such as a marker, pen, or colored pencils), and a pumpkin. If you don’t have a real pumpkin, you can draw your jack o’lantern on paper or a poster board instead.

Draw Your Pumpkin

Once you have gathered your supplies, it’s time to start drawing. Begin by lightly sketching the outline of a pumpkin onto your paper or poster board. The shape of the pumpkin should be large and round. Make sure that the top of the pumpkin is flat and that the bottom is slightly rounded. Then, draw the stem of the pumpkin. It should be thin and long, and should extend up into the top of the pumpkin.

Draw the Face

Once you have finished drawing the outline of your pumpkin, it’s time to draw the face. Start by drawing two large eyes. The eyes should be oval shapes and should be positioned near the top of the pumpkin. Then, draw a nose that is shaped like a triangle and is positioned directly between the eyes. Finally, draw a large smile underneath the nose. Make sure that the smile is wide and curved.

Add Details

To give your jack o’lantern some extra character, you can add some extra details. Start by drawing two eyebrows above the eyes. Then, draw some small vertical lines around the nose to give it a more realistic look. Finally, draw some small wavy lines inside the mouth to give it a more jagged look.

Add Color

If you’re using colored pencils or markers, you can now add some color to your jack o’lantern. Start by coloring the entire pumpkin orange. Then, color the stem green. Finally, color the face yellow or white.

Erase the Guidelines

Once you have finished adding color to your jack o’lantern, you can erase the guidelines that you drew in the beginning. This will make your jack o’lantern look more professional.

Conclusion

Drawing a jack o’lantern is an easy, fun, and creative way to get into the Halloween spirit. All you need is a few simple supplies and a little bit of imagination. With just a few steps, you can create a great looking jack o’lantern that you can be proud of. So, get out your pencils and markers and get ready to draw the perfect jack o’lantern!
