Aurora Borealis Drawing: A Step-by-Step Guide

Drawing the aurora borealis can be a tricky task, but with the right guidance and some practice, anyone can learn to do it. Aurora borealis, or the northern lights, are one of nature’s most beautiful phenomena. From the bright greens, purples, and blues of the night sky, to the swirling and dancing curtains of light, the aurora borealis is a sight to behold. If you’ve ever wanted to capture this beauty in your own artwork, this guide will teach you the basics of creating an aurora borealis drawing.

Step 1: Brainstorm Ideas

Before you start drawing, it’s important to take some time to think about what type of aurora borealis drawing you want to create. Do you want to draw a realistic aurora borealis or a more abstract one? Do you want to focus on the colors and shapes of the lights, or do you want to create a larger night sky scene? Think about the elements you want to include in your drawing and how you want to arrange them. This will help you create a clear plan for your drawing and make it easier to get started.

Step 2: Choose Your Colors

Once you have an idea of what you want to draw, you can start to choose your colors. Aurora borealis can range from shades of green, blue, purple, pink, and yellow. Choose a few colors that you’d like to include in your drawing and make sure to have a good variety. You could use markers, watercolors, colored pencils, or even pastels. Experiment with different color combinations until you find the one that works best for your drawing.

Step 3: Sketch Out Your Drawing

Now that you’ve chosen your colors, it’s time to start sketching out your drawing. Begin by drawing a simple outline of the night sky. If you’re creating a realistic aurora borealis drawing, you can include stars and other elements in the sky. If you’re creating an abstract drawing, you can simply draw a curved line to represent the sky. Next, draw the aurora borealis. Use curved lines and shapes to create the lights and use your chosen colors to fill them in. You can draw a few simple shapes, or you can add more complex details like waves and swirls.

Step 4: Add Finishing Touches

Once you’ve sketched out your drawing, it’s time to add the finishing touches. You can use a black marker or colored pencil to add more details to the sky and the lights. You can also use white or light-colored pencils to add stars and other elements to the sky. Finally, you can use a blending tool to soften the edges of your drawing and create a more realistic look. If you want, you can also add some trees or mountains to the background of your drawing to create a more complete scene.

Step 5: Finalize Your Drawing

Now that you’ve finished your drawing, it’s time to take a step back and admire your work. Make sure that everything is to your liking and that you’re happy with the overall look of your drawing. If you’re still not satisfied, you can always go back and make changes. Finally, you can frame your drawing or hang it up in your home or workspace. Your aurora borealis drawing will be a beautiful reminder of the beauty of the night sky.
