What is Draw Through Supercharger?

Draw through superchargers are a type of forced induction system that provide increased air pressure and air flow in internal combustion engines. By forcing more air into the engine, the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber becomes more volatile, allowing for more efficient combustion and increased power output. This type of supercharger is most commonly used in high performance engines, such as those found in race cars or dragsters.

Draw through superchargers are different from blow-through superchargers. A blow-through supercharger has the air being forced through the supercharger before it enters the engine. A draw-through supercharger has the air entering the supercharger before being forced through the engine.

The advantages of draw-through superchargers are that they are typically more efficient than blow-through superchargers, as they do not require the air-fuel mixture to pass through the supercharger before entering the engine. This helps to reduce the amount of fuel that is wasted through the supercharger. Additionally, draw-through superchargers are generally easier to install than blow-through superchargers, as they do not require the additional piping or plumbing that is needed to route the air-fuel mixture through the supercharger.

Components of Draw Through Supercharger

The components of a draw-through supercharger system include the supercharger itself, the intake manifold, the throttle body, the air filter, and the carburetor or fuel injection system. The supercharger is responsible for compressing the air, and the intake manifold distributes the air to each of the cylinders. The throttle body controls the amount of air that is allowed to enter the engine, and the air filter ensures that no dirt or debris gets into the cylinders. The carburetor or fuel injection system is responsible for mixing the air and fuel in the correct proportions.

The most important component of a draw-through supercharger system is the supercharger itself. This is a device that is driven by the engine and works by compressing the air before it enters the engine. The compression of the air increases the air pressure, which in turn increases the air-fuel mixture’s volatility and allows for more efficient combustion in the engine.

Advantages & Disadvantages of Draw Through Supercharger

One of the biggest advantages of a draw-through supercharger is that it is typically more efficient than a blow-through supercharger, as it does not require the air-fuel mixture to pass through the supercharger before entering the engine. Additionally, draw-through superchargers are generally easier to install than blow-through superchargers.

However, draw-through superchargers also have their disadvantages. They tend to be louder than blow-through superchargers, as the air is being compressed and forced through the engine. Additionally, draw-through superchargers tend to be less efficient than blow-through superchargers at higher engine speeds. This is because at higher engine speeds, the pressure created by the supercharger cannot keep up with the speed of the engine and the air-fuel mixture is not properly mixed.

Conclusion

Draw-through superchargers are a popular choice for high-performance engines, as they are typically more efficient than blow-through superchargers and they are generally easier to install. However, they tend to be louder than blow-through superchargers and they are less efficient at higher engine speeds. Ultimately, the decision of which type of supercharger to use will depend on the application and the desired performance.
