How to Draw a Coyote: A Step-by-Step Guide
If you’re an aspiring artist and you’re looking for a fun and challenging animal to draw, why not try a coyote? Coyotes are wild animals that live in North, Central, and South America. They’re related to wolves, foxes, and other wild canines, and they’re known for their intelligence, hunting abilities, and adaptability. Coyotes are also a popular subject for art, and drawing one can be a great way to build your skills. Read on to learn how to draw a coyote in 7 easy steps.
Step 1: Start With the Head
To draw a coyote, start by sketching the head. Draw an oval shape with a pointy muzzle. This will form the top of the head. Then, draw a curved line coming down from the muzzle to create the jawline. Finally, draw a curved line below the jawline to form the neck. Coyotes have large, pointed ears, so draw two triangular shapes on either side of the head. These will form the base of the ears.
Step 2: Draw the Eyes and the Nose
Next, draw the eyes. Draw two round circles inside the head shape, just above the muzzle. These should be slightly slanted, with the tops pointing outward. Then, draw a curved line coming down from each eye to form the nose. Add two small nostrils at the end of the nose. Coyotes have large, bright eyes, so draw two dots in the middle of each eye for a more realistic look.
Step 3: Add the Ears and the Fur Detail
Now it’s time to add the ears. Draw two curved lines coming down from the base of each ear. Then, draw a curved line along the back of the neck to form the fur. Draw a few curved lines coming down from the neck to form the fur on the chest. Coyotes have a lot of fur, so draw a few more curved lines to add some texture and detail.
Step 4: Draw the Body and the Tail
Draw an elongated oval shape beneath the head to form the body. This should be slightly wider than the head. Then, draw a triangle-shaped tail at the back of the body. Coyotes have short, bushy tails, so draw a few curved lines along the edges of the tail to form the fur.
Step 5: Draw the Legs and the Paws
Draw four long, curved lines coming down from the body to form the legs. Coyotes have long, strong legs, so make sure the legs are long and slightly curved. Then, draw two circles at the end of each leg for the paws. Coyotes have large paws, so make sure the circles are proportional to the size of the body.
Step 6: Add the Fur Detail
Draw a few curved lines along the edges of the legs and the paws to form the fur. Coyotes have thick fur on their legs and paws, so draw a few extra curved lines to make it look more realistic. Then, draw a few curved lines around the face to add some texture and detail to the fur.
Step 7: Color the Drawing
Your drawing is now complete! Coyotes are usually gray, black, and white, so use these colors to color your drawing. You can also use other colors to make it look more realistic. Once you’re done, you can add some shadows and highlights to make the drawing look more lifelike. And there you have it—a beautiful coyote drawing!
