How to Draw a Lion Head Step by Step

Drawing a majestic lion head is a challenge, but with the right techniques, anyone can create a beautiful piece of artwork. In this tutorial, we will explore the basics of how to draw a lion head step by step. We’ll start off with the basics and then add more details as we go along. So let’s get started!

Step 1: Start with a Circle

The first step in drawing a lion head is to draw a basic circle. This will be the shape of the lion’s head, so make sure to draw it accurately. Use a pencil to draw a perfect circle, or use a compass if you have one available. Once you have the circle drawn, you can begin to add the details that make it look like a lion.

Step 2: Draw the Ears

Now that you have the basic shape of the lion’s head, you can begin to draw the ears. Start by drawing two small triangles on either side of the circle. The triangles should be slightly curved and point slightly outward. This will give the lion’s head a more realistic look. Once you have the ears drawn, you can move on to the next step.

Step 3: Draw the Mane

The mane of a lion is one of the most iconic features of the animal. To draw the mane, start by drawing a curved line around the top of the circle. This line should be slightly wavy and slightly thicker than the other lines you’ve drawn so far. Once you have the line drawn, draw small triangles along the line to create the texture of the lion’s mane.

Step 4: Draw the Eyes

The eyes of a lion are a very important feature and can make or break the look of your drawing. To draw the eyes, start by drawing two small circles near the top of the head. These circles should be slightly pointed on the sides and slightly curved on the top. Once you have the circles drawn, draw a small curved line inside each circle to create the pupils of the eyes.

Step 5: Draw the Nose and Mouth

The nose and mouth of a lion are very important features, and they should be drawn accurately. To draw the nose, start by drawing a small curved line near the bottom of the head. This line should be slightly pointed on the sides and slightly curved on the top. Once you have the line drawn, draw two small triangles on either side of the line to create the nostrils. To draw the mouth, start by drawing a small curved line near the bottom of the head. This line should be slightly pointed on the sides and slightly curved on the bottom.

Step 6: Draw the Whiskers

The whiskers of a lion are another important feature that should be drawn accurately. To draw the whiskers, start by drawing two small lines near the nose. These lines should be slightly curved and slightly wavy. Once you have the whiskers drawn, draw two small circles near the mouth to create the lion’s whiskers.

Step 7: Color and Shade the Drawing

Now that you have the basic shape of the lion’s head drawn, you can begin to color and shade it. Use a dark brown or black colored pencil to shade the mane and the rest of the head. You can also use a lighter colored pencil to add highlights and texture to the drawing. Once you have finished shading and coloring the drawing, you can add a few final details to make it look more realistic.

Drawing a lion head can be a challenging task, but with the right techniques and a bit of practice, anyone can create a beautiful piece of artwork. The key is to start with the basics and add more details as you go along. Once you have the basics down, you can begin to explore more complex shapes and textures to further enhance your drawing. With the steps outlined in this tutorial, anyone can learn how to draw a lion head step by step.
