Meerkat Drawing Easy
Meerkats, also called suricates, are small mammals that live in the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa. They are members of the mongoose family and their closest relatives are the mongoose, genets and civets. Meerkats are very social creatures and live in large groups, called gangs or mobs, of up to 30 individuals. They are known for their distinctive bushy tails and upright stance, but they also have some very interesting behaviors that make them popular in zoos and with animal lovers. Drawing meerkats can be a fun and rewarding experience, and with a few basic tips and techniques, you can create your very own meerkat drawing.
Materials Needed
Before you can begin your meerkat drawing, you’ll need some basic materials. You’ll need a standard pencil, a kneaded eraser, a piece of paper, and a medium or large size round paintbrush. You can also use a smaller size round paintbrush if you prefer. You may also want to have a ruler and an assortment of colored pencils or markers to add details to your drawing.
Drawing the Outline
Once you have all your materials ready, you can start drawing the outline of your meerkat. Start by sketching a simple oval shape for the body and two circles for the head and tail. Then add two smaller circles for the eyes and two more circles for the ears. Finally, draw a line from the head to the tail to define the back of the meerkat. Once you are happy with the outline, you can start adding details.
Adding Details
Once you have the outline of your meerkat, you can start adding details. Start by adding the legs and feet. Meerkats have short legs and long feet, so draw them accordingly. Then add the tail and whiskers. Make sure to draw the tail in a curved shape, as this is how they naturally appear. Finally, draw the fur. You can use the paintbrush to add small, short strokes to create the fur. Make sure to add the fur in the direction of the meerkat’s body.
Shading and Color
Once you have finished drawing your meerkat, you can start adding shading and color. Use the kneaded eraser to lighten and darken certain areas of the drawing to give it more depth. You can also use colored pencils or markers to add color to your meerkat. Use lighter colors for the fur and darker colors for the eyes, ears and nose. You can also add some texture to the fur by using different shades of the same color.
Finishing Touches
Once you have finished adding shading and color to your meerkat drawing, you can start adding the final touches. Add some small details such as spots, stripes, or patches of color. You can also add some highlights to the eyes and nose to give them a more realistic look. Finally, you can add some grass or other elements to the background of the drawing to give it a more natural look.
Meerkat drawing can be a fun and rewarding experience. With a few basic tips and techniques, you can create your very own meerkat drawing. Just remember to practice, be patient, and have fun!
