How to Draw an Anchor Step by Step

Drawing an anchor is a great way to express your love for the ocean. Whether you are drawing a simple anchor for a tattoo, a more complex one for a project or a whimsical one for a piece of art, the steps for drawing an anchor are the same. With practice and a steady hand, you can draw a beautiful anchor in no time.

Step 1: Sketch Out the Basic Shape of the Anchor

The basic shape of an anchor is simple, but you may want to sketch it out first for practice. Start by drawing a vertical line, then add a horizontal line to the bottom of the vertical line. You can make the top of the anchor a bit curved if you’d like. You can also draw two circles at the top of the vertical line, one on either side. This will be the ring of the anchor.

Step 2: Sketch Out the Arms of the Anchor

Once you have the basic shape of the anchor sketched out, you can start sketching out the arms. Start by drawing two curved lines coming off of the bottom of the vertical line. These lines should be slightly curved inwards, to give the anchor its classic shape. Then, draw two more curved lines coming off of the vertical line. These lines should be slightly curved outwards.

Step 3: Add Details to the Anchor

Once you have the basic shape and arms of the anchor sketched out, it’s time to add details. Start by drawing two vertical lines coming off of the sides of the arms. These lines should be slightly curved, to give the anchor more dimension. Then, draw two horizontal lines coming off of the top of the vertical line. These lines should be slightly curved inwards, to give the anchor a more realistic look.

Step 4: Add Finishing Touches to the Anchor

Now that you have the basic shape and details of the anchor sketched out, it’s time to add the finishing touches. Start by drawing two curved lines in the center of the arms. These lines should be slightly curved outwards, to give the anchor an even more realistic look. Then, draw a small circle in the center of the anchor. This will be the eye of the anchor.

Step 5: Outline the Anchor

Once you have the basic shape and details of the anchor sketched out and all of the finishing touches added, it’s time to outline the anchor. Take a thin marker or pen and carefully trace the shape of the anchor. This will give the anchor a more professional look and will make it stand out.

Step 6: Color the Anchor

Once you have the anchor outlined, you can start to color it. You can use any color you’d like, but classic colors like navy blue, white, and black are always a good choice. You can also use a combination of colors to give the anchor a more unique look. Just make sure to use colors that compliment each other.

Conclusion

Drawing an anchor is a great way to express your love for the ocean. With practice and a steady hand, you can draw a beautiful anchor in no time. Just remember to sketch out the basic shape of the anchor first, then add the arms and details. Finally, outline and color the anchor to give it a professional look. With a bit of patience and practice, you can create a beautiful anchor that you can be proud of.
