Step-by-Step Guide to Drawing Animals
When you want to draw animals, it can be difficult to know where to start! Drawing animals can be a fun and creative activity, but it can also be intimidating for people who are new to drawing. Fortunately, drawing animals doesn’t have to be difficult. With the right tools, some patience, and this step-by-step guide, you’ll be well on your way to creating amazing works of art!
Gather Materials
Before you start drawing, you’ll need to gather the right materials. Depending on your preference, you can choose to use regular pencil and paper, or you can use a graphics tablet and stylus. For this guide, we’ll assume you’re using a pencil and paper.
You’ll also need a few other materials to make your drawings look professional. These include an eraser, blending stump, and a kneaded eraser. The blending stump will help you blend colors and create smooth lines, while the kneaded eraser will help you erase any mistakes without smudging the artwork.
Choose a Reference Image
Once you have all the materials, it’s time to choose a reference image. This is a photo or illustration of the animal you’d like to draw. Choose something that is interesting to you and that has a level of detail that you feel comfortable working with. This will be the basis for your drawing, so make sure you select something you’re happy with.
Once you have your reference image, you’ll want to print it out or trace it onto a piece of paper. This will make it easier to see the details of the animal as you draw. If you’re working digitally, you can just open the image in a separate window and refer to it as you draw.
Sketch the Basic Shapes
Now it’s time to start sketching the basic shapes of the animal. Start by drawing the overall shape of the body, head, and other major body parts. Don’t worry too much about details at this point, just focus on getting the basic shapes down.
Once you have the basic shapes sketched, start adding details like the eyes, nose, ears, and other features. This part can take some time, so don’t be discouraged if it takes you a while to get all the details right.
Add Color and Texture
Once you’re happy with the basic shapes and details, it’s time to add color and texture. Start by lightly shading the body and the major parts, then add the colors and textures. You can use different shades of the same color to create depth and add texture. You can also use a blending stump to create smooth transitions between colors.
Once your drawing is finished, you can erase any remaining pencil lines and add any final touches. Be sure to take your time and enjoy the process! Drawing can be a great way to relax and express yourself creatively.
