UCL Group Stage Draw: An Overview

The UEFA Champions League (UCL) group stage draw is one of the most exciting moments of the European football season. Every year, the draw determines the eight groups of four teams that will compete in the competition. The draw is conducted at the start of August and gives each team the opportunity to compete and qualify for the knockout stages of the competition. This year, the draw took place on August 28th at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

The draw is a complex process that involves a number of teams, clubs and federations, all of which are involved in the process of determining the groups. Each team is randomly assigned to one of the eight groups, and the teams are then split into two ‘pots’ based on the coefficient of their country’s UEFA rankings. The pot on the left side of the draw consists of the highest ranked teams, while the pot on the right side of the draw consists of the lower ranked teams. The coefficient is determined by a team’s performance in the previous season’s Champions League and Europa League competitions.
