Gather Your Art Supplies
To begin drawing a girl crying, you’ll need the right supplies. Start with a few sheets of white paper, preferably heavier watercolor paper, and a set of pencils, which can be anything from a basic set of number 2 pencils up to artist quality. If you plan to use colored pencils or markers, make sure to have those ready. It’s also helpful to have an eraser and a sharpener on hand.
Beyond the basic art supplies, it’s important to have some reference photos to work with. Unless you’re an experienced artist, it can be difficult to draw the human body and its many facial expressions from memory. Reference photos can help you capture the nuances of a crying face. Look for pictures of people, either online or in magazines, and print them out or trace them directly onto your paper.
Sketch Out the Basic Shape
Once you have your supplies ready, it’s time to start drawing. Start by sketching out the basic shape of your girl’s head and body. This can be done using basic shapes such as a circle for the head and rectangles for the body. Use light strokes and don’t press too hard on the pencil, as you can always darken the lines later.
You don’t have to get too detailed at this point. Just focus on the big shapes and overall structure of the body. Once you have the basic shape and proportions down, you can start to refine the details.
Add the Facial Features
When it comes to drawing a crying face, the most important feature is the eyes. Start by sketching out the basic shape of the eyes, then draw the eyelids and lashes. Make sure to include the tears, which will be running down the girl’s face. You can also add details such as the eyebrows, nose, and mouth. Finally, add the hair, which can be long and flowing or short and spiky. Depending on the reference photo you are using, you may also want to add any accessories the girl is wearing.
Adding Color
Once you have the basic drawing finished, it’s time to add color. If you are using colored pencils, pick a few colors that you think will work well for the girl’s skin and hair. Start by lightly shading the skin with a light color, then layer on darker colors until you get the desired effect. When it comes to the hair, use a variety of colors for highlights and lowlights.
If you’re using markers, you can color in the girl’s hair and skin directly. Make sure to use different shades of the same color to give the image depth and texture. To finish the drawing, add a few tears running down the girl’s face.
Finishing Touches
Once you have the basic drawing and coloring finished, it’s time to add the finishing touches. Go over the drawing with a darker pencil or marker, adding shadows and highlights to give the image depth. You can also add details such as freckles, wrinkles, and other facial features. Finally, use an eraser to clean up any smudges or mistakes.
Now that the drawing is finished, you can hang it up or frame it as a reminder of how powerful emotions can be. Drawing a crying girl is a great way to practice your art skills and learn more about facial expressions. With a bit of practice and patience, you’ll soon be creating beautiful portraits of people in all kinds of emotional states.
